Heavy Vehicle Registration Inspections in Mataranka

What’s Included in a Heavy Vehicle Registration Inspection

Our heavy vehicle inspection service checks key safety and roadworthiness items commonly required for registration purposes, including:

  • Brakes, steering and suspension
  • Tyres, wheels and axle condition
  • Lights, indicators and reflectors
  • Windscreen, mirrors and wipers
  • Chassis, body and structural condition
  • Fluid leaks and driveline components
  • Identification details and general compliance items

Where required, documentation can support your registration application with the Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR). Some vehicles may also need a separate government compliance check depending on vehicle type, age or registration history.

To learn how to register a Heavy Vehicle, the requirements, exemptions and other details please visit the Northern Territory MVR website.

Truck registration in the Northern Territory requires submitting an R11 application to the Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR), proving vehicle ownership, and providing identity/residency proof. Heavy vehicles need inspections. Registration periods of 3, 6, or 12 months are available for vehicles over or under 4.5 tonnes

If your vehicle fails the inspection

If your vehicle fails an inspection, you must repair the identified issues and have it re-checked. There is no fee for a failed inspection at a vehicle inspection facility. After repairs, you can either bring your vehicle back to a facility without needing to re-book online or have a licensed local mechanic perform the re-inspection, though they will charge an inspection fee.

In certain cases, such as vehicle modifications, a transport inspector may need to re-check the vehicle after repairs. If this applies to you, you will be notified during the initial inspection.

Moving an unregistered vehicle - For unregistered vehicles that do not pass the inspection, you can apply for a temporary license valid for up to 7 days. This allows you to complete the necessary repairs and return for another inspection.
